This year, AACC International — a nonprofit organization of more than 2,000 food scientists and industry professionals — for the first time held its annual meeting, known as Cereals & Grains, outside of North America. With the four-day event being in London, two ADM Milling UK colleagues took the opportunity to meet up with cereal science leaders from across the industry.
Anna Perz, wheat and gristing manager, ADM Milling UK, and Simon Penson, technical director, ADM Milling UK, gained insights into some of the biggest challenges facing the baked foods and cereals market. Key topics included the latest developments in nutrition, food safety and sustainability, which instigating some thought-provoking discussions concerning the future of the industry.
“As farmers, processors and manufacturers look to feed a growing population, scientists must learn how to deliver leaner and faster science and innovation approaches for smarter and more sustainable food production,” said Penson. “Meanwhile, environmental issues, such as global warming, remain a key concern. All in all, it was a fantastic opportunity to network — including with academics, suppliers and even some of our customers and competitors.”
