Team ADM Keeps Pace, Sets Course for UK Hospice Program’s Brighter Future
The sun was shining last Thursday when ADM Milling UK colleagues in Chelmsford joined with others in the local business community for the 20th anniversary of the Birketts’ Race4Business. The favorable weather allowed runners to set a brisk pace on the course, but the real story is the difference that their fundraising efforts will make off the course in the years to come.
- Background: For 20 years, Birketts’ Race4Business through Chelmsford City Centre and nearby parks has offered individuals and teams representing local businesses an opportunity to come together and raise money for local charitable organization — including this year’s cause, the Farleigh Hospice Outreach Project (HOP). Fairleigh Hospice provides free specialist care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses in mid-Essex, and the HOP vehicle travels around the community to raise awareness about the hospice program.
- Results: Team ADM and ADM Milling UK’s Chelmsford office were represented this year by Laura Hensley, Daniel Leeson, Mark Shipton, Keith Marley, Lewis Wright and Simon Penson. All of the ADM runners finished the 3.5-mile course in under 35 minutes, and Marley earned an impressive ninth place finish out of nearly 1,000 runners. More importantly, the £20,000 raised by the event will help provide Farleigh Hospice Outreach Project with a new vehicle.
- Bottom line: “The event is a great way to bring together local businesses, and the friendly competitiveness brings with it a great sense of community spirit, Hensley, a marketing assistant and the Chelmsford office’s health and safety coordinator. “We even bumped into our office neighbors on the starting line. We are very proud to have given our support to this event for past 11 years.”
